Steve Scalise is a New Orleans native and a life-long Conservative, currently serving as Majority Leader in the House and working to support Republicans across the country and defend the Republican House Majority.
Steve’s greatest joy is being a husband to his wife Jennifer and a dad to his two children, Madison and Harrison.
Steve has worked tirelessly since 2008 to represent the people of Southeast Louisiana.
He represents Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District, which stretches from the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain to historic New Orleans suburbs and the Mississippi River delta.
The great-grandson of Italian immigrants, Steve’s family came to New Orleans from Sicily as farmers, eventually opening up a grocery store about eight blocks from where the Superdome is today.
Steve has spent his whole life in Louisiana. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School and attended Louisiana State University, where he was involved in College Republicans, student government, and earned a degree in Computer Science.
Steve registered as a Republican the day he turned 18. He won his first race in 1996, when he was elected to serve in the Louisiana State Legislature. Throughout the campaign he worked tirelessly alongside friends and family to spread his message, hosting spaghetti dinners and reaching out to his community. A computer programmer by trade, he developed his own software designed to track door-knocking by precinct and manage voter files.
While serving in the Louisiana legislature, Steve earned a reputation for fostering strong relationships, coalition-building, and working across the aisle – doing whatever it takes to secure crucial wins for the people he represents.
Steve believes in upholding the Constitution, a robust national defense, exercising fiscal discipline, standing up for pro-life values and promoting common-sense energy strategies.
As the second-highest ranking Republican member of House Leadership, he works hand-in-hand with his colleagues to build Conservative coalitions and accomplish the Republican agenda.
